The international Journal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy (MPCE) is sponsored by State Grid Electric Power Research Institute (SGEPRI) (also named NARI Group Corporation) which is directly affiliated with State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC). With the headquarters located in Nanjing, SGEPRI builds its scientific research centers and industrial companies covering the fields of clean energy generation and integration, power transmission and transformation, power distribution and utilization, large power grid security and control, electric information and communication technology, rail transit and industrial control, water resources & hydropower automation and environment monitoring, etc. SGEPRI has a talent team led by two academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, who are experts in the fields of power system stability, control and relay protection and have many state-of-the-art research achievements in these areas. A post-doctoral hub for power engineering research has been set up in SGEPRI. Meanwhile, SGEPRI has been authorized to conduct PhD programs jointly with a number of prominent Chinese universities such as Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University and Southeast University.

Journal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy (MPCE) is published by Nanjing NARI Electric Power Information Co., Ltd. and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Nanjing NARI Electric Power Information Co., Ltd. has published MPCE and its sister Chinese journal entitled Automation of Electric Power Systems (AEPS). AEPS has been published since 1977 and is one of the core periodicals of Ei (The Engineering Index)since 1999. It is indexed by Ei (USA), AJ (Russia), SA (UK), CBST (Japan), CSCD (China), etc. AEPS is one of a few journals with high impact factors and number of citations in the field of electric power engineering in China. It has gained awards such as the National Journal Award, which is the highest award a Chinese journal can earn, for three consecutive times, the Most Influential Periodical of the Past 60 Years in People's Republic of China, the 100 Outstanding Chinese Academic Journals, and the Chinese High-Quality Scientific and Technical Journals. Recently, AEPS has also been recognized as the 2012 "The Excellent International Impact Academic Journals of China (Science/Technology/Medicine)" by China Academic Journals Electronic Publishing House, China Scientific Literature Evaluation and Measuring Research Center and Library of Tsinghua University in Beijing.
